The Team at Optimal Brain

Dr. Lori Myren-Manbeck

Lori has been a licensed clinical psychologist for over twenty years.  She graduated from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1986 and completed her Ph.D. at the University of Rhode Island in 2000.  She has been licensed in the state of Minnesota since 2007.  Lori’s PH.D. research focused on the experiences of families whose children were in intensive care.  Her internship included working with college students and women experiencing domestic violence.  Since licensure, she has treated adults across the life span, with extensive experience in geriatrics.

Lori utilizes best-practice strategies from Acceptance and Commitment, Life Review, Supportive, and Cognitive Behavioral therapy models.  Her approach helps clients develop specific, usable tools that facilitate living more satisfying lives while respecting their unique abilities, passions, and needs.  Her consistent aim is to meet clients exactly where they are in order to best help them move the direction they choose to move.  Special areas of focus include: aging, anxiety, depression, alternative lifestyles, sex positivity, and trauma, including personal, societal, and historical/generational trauma

Lori is now looking to expand her career by offering supervision.  It is in this role that she has chosen to join Optimal Brain.  Utilizing the approach she takes in therapy, Lori plans to provide supervision that focuses not just on technique and skill building, but also on human relationship, compassion, and respect.  She looks forward to using her knowledge, genuine care and respect for other humans, and excellent mentoring skills to help develop the next generation of compassionate, caring, skilled psychotherapists.

She accepts most major insurance plans.
